This is a tumblelog, kinda like a blog but with short-form, mixed-media posts with stuff I like. Scroll down a bit to start reading, or a bit more to read more about me.
I am so damn sick of hearing about Whitney Houston’s death. Don’t care, if you like I advise you stop reading now because this forum won’t improve for you. Sorry I’m not sorry but besides the fact she had a dece voice there wasn’t anything talented about her. She wrote one good song, and covered Dolly Partons well but I’ve heard better covers- including on Glee just this week! (yeah I like it, you would too). Even her one song you can only stand to listen to after your gone on two bottles of wine after a breakup. Even then drunk you probably thinks its too sappy and unbearable. I know I sure as fuck do. And who gives a damn? Honestly what has the woman even done in the last 15 years besides release some of her best of collections (I know it’s scary people think shes worth a collection). What pisses me off most though is that EVERY goddam station is airing tributes to her around the clock and most of these fuckers are 24 hour networks so after they play her 1 song and some interview from a publicist she once had for two weeks they fill the rest of the 23:45 minutes with the same bullshit! And people are eating that shit up! Does really no one remember that not even a month ago we lost one of the truly great female artists of our time? The 20th of January Etta James fucking died! That I would’ve watched coverage on. She was ahead of her time and continues to inspire music long after her start, she overcame abusive relationships and heroin addiction all of which started around the age if 21 and singers of the time didn’t know much better. Whitney Houston doesnt deserve to get the recognition she’s been given and just didn’t do a damn thing in comparison. Told you that you wouldn’t like it.
I love giftcards but more than giftcards I love cash. I don’t know why people put the word out that giving money isn’t a good gift for the holidays. The whole its tacky thing has been beaten to death- it gives me a world of options and really be thankful for. Speaking as a normal american it shows me that you understand I don’t need that chilis giftcard because its not the only place I eat. In fact its rare I ever eat out and it will probably be such a long time before I go back to the restaurant you gave the the card for that I’ll forget I have it leave it at home and need to pay cash anyways. Don’t waste my time, cash is thoughtful and says I know you had everything you really need and because I can’t tell if you’ll need groceries or gasoline next and thought maybe in the meantime id like a subway sub or drink after work I’m leaving this cash to you to choose how to best spend it. You’re basically giving me the world when you give me options by way of money and you’d know this because when I sit down to drunkenly write thank yous from the tequila I purchased I will tell you of all the adventures in decision making I had during my holiday break and how your gift of cash didn’t limit what I did. In fact it enabled me to go out into the world and invest hopefully stimulating the economy- who knows I may have a local business id love to buy clothing from but you live far away and never call so it could be your fault when they go out of business. So to those of you who wanted to buy me a makeup pallette or a massage I like feeling empowered enough to make those decisions myself. Holidays should be spent spending money with family watching A Christmas Story for the bajillionth time not thinking that I should check online to see if I can exchange this sweater for a larger post-turkeyday pre-nye resolution to lose the weight. Who knows maybe I’ll wanna but a fit log and grab this sweater at 75% off at Marshalls in another couple of weeks to make myself feel really thrifty. Isn’t that was jesus intended? Thrift.
